My country dons
An ugly face
Eye keen and sharp
At rapid pace
Destroying lives
No room for grace.
Its reflection
Going unseen
Prompts only wrath
For those who’ve been
At work and home
With darker skin.
Let’s rue the day
They came to live
Says the new face
We won’t forgive
Nor our loathing
Ever outlive.
If they be gay
Or gender trans
We shall issue
Such urgent bans
To block them of
What our eye scans.
Tis a new day
In our new land
Those are like me
Shall we let stand
And the others
All shall be canned.
It’s for my own
The new face jeers
Who could care for
The Sojourner
Whom God brought near
To find shelter?
