ELUSIVE TREASURE

Locked away in toiling search
The heart can find nowhere to perch.
In constant casting to and fro,
Its longing net does often throw
To the void.

The treasure’s near, it feels so true
Yet still the heart pines and aches blue.
Once so close, yet it passed on by,
Leaving the heart so slow to try
One more time.

The ache urges another reach,
Though this scant treasure joy does leach.
To find a soul with time to spend
Is to sit at the rainbow’s end
Enjoying.

The cold bars are set one by one
Panicking the heart; I must run.
Another bar clunks into place
Still the treasure shows not its face.
I’m alone.
