Come! Calls the box holding chocolates.
Come! Calls the friend to go for a hike.
Come! Calls the day of leisurely rest.
Come! Calls the spouse to picnic and play.
Come! Calls the tempting book to embrace.
Come! Calls the cat to nap in the lap.
Come! Calls the morning sunrise to view.
Come! Calls the babe to cuddle and coo.
Come! Calls the joy to flee ruts and thrive.
Do! Calls the never-ending lawn.
Do! Calls the dust to be wiped at dawn.
Do! Calls the repairs needing to be made.
Do! Calls the bills waiting to be paid.
Do! Calls the laundry dirty with grime.
Do! Calls the meals to be cooked on time.
Do! Calls the line of unending chore.
Do! Calls the thing lounging at the store.
Do! Calls the shower begging a scrub.
Oh, to heed temptation’s siren call
And wrestle time away from Do
And thus discover a gentler life
That savors joy above duty’s pall.
