There is a long twilight between life and death
A time when gravity gradually increases
Making bodies heavy and limbs weighed down
Easy movement slowly ceases.
Laborious steps hard and slow
Do limit the distance of space and motion
Causing the world to shrink
Stillness and rest seem the potion.
There is a long twilight between life and death
During which time slows to a crawl
Each minute an hour becomes
Each day a waiting haul.
Waiting, waiting, watching, watching
As time does creep
In a world so small and slow
What else to do but sleep?
There is a long twilight between life and death
Where ambitions fade and joy grows dull
Life is behind
All but the past is null.
Thoughts rehearse
The days gone by
While spirit yearns
Once more to fly.
There is a long twilight between life and death
Where gravity’s strong hold
And time’s slow torture
Do cause hands to fold.
Hard effort pushes the body to rest
With spirit dim yearning it might
Push past this captivity
And step into light.
